Effect:
A spectator signs a coin and a playing card, then the coin vanishes and is revealed to be inside the signed card! The fact that it is the spectator's own coin and their selected card which are used make this an ASTONISHING trick to experience, right before their very eyes.

The magician places a borrowed coin, a pen, and a deck of cards on the table. He asks a spectator to choose a card, sign across the card's face, then replace the card into the deck where it is shuffled in to ensure its lost. The magician explains that the spectator's coin will help him find their card, and asks them to sign the coin. Then, he taps the coin on the deck and the coin vanishes!

Speading through the playing cards, the magician finds the spectator's previously chosen card - but where is the coin? Nowhere to be seen, until the magician uses the knife to slice across the face of the card. The spectator's signed coin is revealed to be sealed between the layers which make up the signed playing card!!

Questions answered

Does this trick use duplicate cards and coins?
NO. The only card used is the one the spectator selects and signs. The coin used is borrowed from the spectator for added impact!

Are the coin and card examinable?
YES! The spectator should even be encouraged to keep both the card and the coin after the trick! That way, they can tell all their friends how amazing the trick was, and soon everybody will want to see your magic!

Does the trick used gimmicked coins or cards as props?
NO! It really is done with their signed coin and card.

Is it an optical illusion, or does the coin really end up inside the card?
The coin can be felt inside the card before it is cut open - yes, it really is in there!

Can I repeat C2C?
One playing card is destroyed in the performance of this trick, so you will need to keep a backup supply of cards. Other than that, there's nothing to stop you performing the trick again and again.

The performer displays two packets of face-down cards, each packet containing four cards. One packet is red-backed and the other is blue-backed. The packets are tabled, and a spectator is allowed to select either the red or blue packet. Whichever packet he selects is used. There is no magician's force.The spectator is asked to imagine that his packet consists of four face-down queens. Once this is done, he is to think of any one of the four queens - hearts, clubs, spades or diamonds. Again, this is totally free choice! A second spectator is now directed to concentrate on the remaining four-card packet, and like the first spectator, is allowed to think of a different queen.Now, without touching the cards, the performer claims he has caused the two selections to trade places. The first spectator names his card, the performer spreads his packet, and the queen he merely thought of is reversed face up in the packet. While the eyes of the audience are on him, and while his own eyes are closed, a spectator feels that his hand has been touched. The audience can plainly see that the magician did not touch the spectator. · The Floating Ring - The magician borrows a ring and displays it on his finger. The ring is suspended from his finger. The finger is moved away and the ring remains floating in the air totally unsupported. The magician plucks it from the air and hands it immediately back to it's owner!

An amazing collection of card magic routines from one of card magic's most creative minds. Full contents of this E-Book: A Pain in the Ace - You push a selected card into the middle of the deck - it rises to the top. You push it back into the middle and flip over the top card. Unfortunately it's not the selection. It's an Ace. You - or a spectator - give the deck a fair cut to bury the face up Ace in the middle. Upon spreading the deck all four Aces are now face up together in the middle - but there's one face down card caught in the middle. This proves to be the awkward selection. The ROLEX Gang - You remove the four Aces then place a random card between them. The card vanishes. You place another random card in the middle of the Aces and again the card vanishes. A spectator selects a card - it might be a Queen (it will be a Queen!) - and this is placed in the middle of the Aces. 'A very stubborn lady,' you say, as the Queen refuses to vanish. Instead, the Aces change into the four Kings - her four chaperons! Garden Path II - A card is selected and placed face down on table. The spectator deals three packets of three cards and discards the rest of the deck. The top card of each packet is turned face up, and the performer uses the information on each card in an attempt at divining the name of the selection. But he fails. The packets cleanly are placed together with the three reversed cards still in place. You hold the packet and tap it with the selection whereupon the three reversed cards visibly change into the three mates of the selection. Inside Out - In the book Alternative Card Magic (See CardZones), I included a trick called, 'Inside Job'. I have since published a couple of variations. However, this is the first that requires no significant set-up. New Hue View - An outgrowth from a previous effect of mine called 'A Piece of Fred' that appeared in Obsession. Both this and the previous effect are inspired by an, as yet, unpublished Fred Robinson concept along with a Charles Jordan Riffle Shuffle principle. This is better performed for other magicians. Between Queens - The two black Queens are placed together face up in the deck. The deck is flipped face up and spectators remember both the face card and the card at the rear. The deck is turned face down and immediately spread, revealing one face down card is now caught between the Queens. This is one of the selections. The other selection is brought out your pocket. Bad Influence - Four red cards are placed on the table beside four black cards. A spectator chooses a pile, then chooses any one of the four cards. The selection is placed back into the packet, then both red and black piles are placed together. The spectator eliminates all but one card. This is his selection. Finally the other cards are now turned over revealing them to be all red cards. The selection is now the only card of its colour! More Convivial - A card is selected then returned to the deck. You make three attempts to find the card and fail each time. So, you perform some magic with the three cards you did find. Finally the chosen card turns up completely unexpectedly. Card of Darkness A face up wrong card changes into the selection - influenced by the powers of darkness. Deal Steal Collectors - The Walton Collectors. Here, the cards are immediately dealt off the deck the moment they are placed on top, thanks to the Benzais Deal Steal. Counting the Maze Way - A short while back Gene Maze sent me an intriguing effect where you dealt four hands of cards. Each hand was numbered 1-2-3-4. Spectator 1 counted one card, spectator 2 counted to the 2nd card, and so on. Each spectator turned over their card arrived at to reveal four Aces. This is an extension of that idea. Mini-Hellraiser - A fast moving Elevator routine that finishes in the hands of a spectator. This is a short version of my Hellraiser routine from Obsession and is useful where no table top is available. See Effortless Card Magic for further Hellraiser thoughts. An Imposition - Random cuts of the deck reveal the suit & value of a selected card. With no further manipulation of the cards, the spectator himself locates the card. This is a different approach to my 'The Impromptu Imposition' that appeared in the late Ellison Poland's excellent Second Addendum (1994) to his classic Wonderful Routines of Magic (1969). Crime Suspect - A spectator locates his card without knowing how. Three Down - One to Go - After a card has been selected and lost back into the deck, the spectator cuts the deck into three face up piles. He may have cut to his selection, but the spectator must not tell you. You remove the face card from each pile and mix these three cards as you ask the spectator if, indeed, you were lucky. He confirms that one of the three cards is his selection. The three cards are replaced in the deck one by one and all squared. You spread the deck revealing his card is now face up. No, you didn't secretly reverse when you mixed the three cards! Suit Yourself Too - A variation on Roy Walton's 'Suit Yourself' (Devil's Playthings and Complete Walton Vol.1). Roy based his trick on Karl Fulves' Self-Duplicating Set-up (Epilogue - also see 'Replica Poker, More Self-working Card Tricks). Ulti-Print! You show 4 cards with backs but no faces. One of these cards is reversed - this is the magic catalyst that does the magic. What happens to the catalyst, happens to the others too. The catalyst suddenly prints a face. Then the three other blanks all develop faces. The 4 cards are counted one by one both sides being seen. There are no extra cards. Originally distributed as a packet trick in the 1990's.

Full contents of this E-Book:Black Sheep: Two spectators each select cards from a packet, then you select one, but you leave your selection face up as proof of your actions. You spread the packet and remove your card along with the two cards on ether side. These prove to be the other two selections. As an afterthought, you point out that both of the spectator’s selections are red, and your card is black. When you show all the other cards, they prove to be black also. Somehow the spectators managed to choose the only two red cards! The Keepers of the Secrets: A quick sandwich effect using ten red spot cards and the two black Jacks. This uses a Laurie Ireland Bottom Deal concept, that of secretly losing a card as you deal. But you only need to do it once, and ‘you’ choose when. So no pressure. Spectator Cuts to the Aces: Classic plot – a spectator cuts the deck into four piles. The top card of each pile proves to be an Ace. Spectator Cuts to the Aces - Plus!: You show the four Kings to a spectator and place them face down on the table, saying, 'I now want you to create four perfect blackjack hands – to do this I want you to cut to the four Aces!' The spectator cuts the deck into four piles. You now turn over the top card of each pile to find…..the four Kings! The four cards that you placed aside at the start prove to be the four Aces. K.I.A: A different stack for an ingenious Marty Kane Automatic Placement concept. MIRACLE OR IMPOSSIBLE REVISITED: This is a simple variation on Arun Bonerjee’s 'Miracle or Impossible' (Billet no.348, July/Aug 2000). During all the spelling in this routine I suggest that you spell the words as the spectator deals the cards. THE UNIVERSAL BASE: A 'Universal card' (Ace of Spades) placed on the face of the deck changes into the mates of two freely chosen cards. Finally the other three Aces appear unexpectedly to finish. HOFZINSER ON BASE: This uses the same concept as the previous trick to achieve a different effect. This time we revisit the Hofzinser Card Problem. CHANGE-OVER QUICKER: A forerunner to the Fulves 'Black Widow' plot was Tom Sellers’ 'The Change-over Aces' from Magical Mixture, 1943. In this, a red Ace is placed between two red court cards and a black Ace is placed between two black court cards. The Aces change places. Sellers uses only the Glide to achieve the effect. However, he transfers eight cards in the process. It struck me that he didn’t need to transfer eight cards, it can be done in only six transfers – which is what you want. I have also added a second phase with the Aces face up. HERE WE GO AGAIN...: I return once again to one of my favourite obsessions, the Hofzinser 'Royal Marriages' plot - the marrying up of Kings and Queens. Among past methods I have used is the Stay Stack principle. The present version also uses the Stay Stack principle, but not with the full packet, as the cards appear to be divided into Kings & Queens to begin. I’ll describe handling only here and leave the patter to the reader. COMBINATION LUCK: A card discovery using a random number thought of by a spectator that works automatically. CANNIBALECTOR: As an introductory feat, the four Kings demonstrate their magical abilities by causing two random cards to vanish. Having proved their expertise in the art of vanishing, they now instantly collect three previously selected cards. WITCH WAY?: The two black Queens are shown then cut into the deck. Instantly one of the Queens is produced from your pocket. Using this red Queen as a magic device you wave it over the deck then spread it. The two 'red' Queens are now seen to be face up on the middle, but there’s one face down card trapped between them. This proves to be the other black Queen. THE FACE UP TRICK: You offer to demonstrate a card trick, but you point out that you’ve only learnt it with the cards face up. You turn the deck face up and begin. A card is freely selected and pushed back into the middle. Using your 'sensitive fingers' you successfully cut to the chosen card. You now offer to do try it again with half the cards face up and half face down this time. You spread the cards and spectator indicated the spot near the middle. You flip the upper section over so they lie face-to-face with the bottom section. Instantly you spread the deck and all the cards are now face down! 'Great!' you say, 'I’ve never been able to do this trick with all the cards face down before.' But there are two cards that remained face up. Noting that there is a card trapped between them you slide it out and it proves to be the previously selected card. PIANO BIDDLE: You remove six matching pairs of cards, then you count them to make sure you have only six pairs because this trick uses an even number of pairs. But, oops, you have seven pairs, so you return one pair to the deck. These might be the red Aces. You now split the six pairs up be dealing them into two piles. A magical gesture, and you now show that the pairs have magically reunited, as you turn over pairs of cards from the top of each pile. But wait, there is a single odd card remaining in each pile. These prove to be the red Aces! TRIPLE HUMDINGER: A spectator removes any 8 cards from the deck then you write three predictions. In the end, all three predictions prove to be correct.

BYPASS: A discovery of two chosen cards, one appearing in your pocket. HALLOWEEN LOCATION: This is a presentation for a location using the 'Automatic Placement.' FACT OR FICTION?: My latest approach to the Gardner Lie Detector plot. This is based on Robert Neale’s 'Cal the Incalculable.' See 'Heaps of Lies' later in this booklet for another approach to the plot. MIRACLE OR IMPOSSIBLE AGAIN!: This is a variation on Arun Bonerjee’s 'Miracle or Impossible' that appeared in The Billet, no.348, July/Aug 2000. There is an old mathematical location disguised by the spelling here. MAKE MINE A DOUBLE: A simple matching effect where a spectator picks a card for you and a card for himself. Both cards match in colour and value. FAT CHANCE: A simple card trick inspired by Tom Sellers’ classic plot. THE BROWN DETECTIVE: Based on 'The Detective Card Trick' (The Card Magic of Edward G. Brown by Trevor Hall, 1973). Professor Sidney Lawrence also published a very similar trick in Ten Self Working Master Effects (undated manuscript). TOTALIZATOR: Two spectators each freely select a card. You immediately produce two cards that have the same total. THE MENTAL PACK: A deck of cards reveals a number that a spectator is thinking of then his selected card appears magically. SUIT CARRIER: You lay the four Aces on the table. A spectator selects a card which is placed to one side. He now takes the Aces. You ask him to spell CLUBS, which he does by shifting cards from top to bottom as he spells. He then deals the top Ace face up onto the table and it’s the Ace of Clubs, to which you say, 'I don’t think your card is a club.' This is repeated with Hearts and Spades. He is left holding the Ace of Diamonds. You state that his card must be a Diamond. He agrees. You now turn over his card revealing it has changed into the Ace of Diamonds. The card he is holding is now his selected card. HOUR MAGIC!: A spectator locates his selected card using his magic hour. INNOCENT CONFUSION: A handling variation of Roy Walton’s 'Confusion of the Innocents' (Genii, Sept 2000). WORD COUNT: A selected card is found in the deck by spelling out a regular sequence of numbers. There are two versions included here. RITUAL ABUSE: This, and the following two effects were inspired by Marty Kane’s recent positional retention work (Status Quo Principles 1 & 2 - see 21 Card Tricks for further ideas). Both J. K. Hartman and Phil Goldstein have previously published effects based on these principles dating back to the 1980s. Marty has independently analysed these principles and formulated them for various sized packets and different procedures. This first effect is a card divination/prediction. STRAIGHT QUALITY POKER: A spectator mixes a packet of 11 cards then produces three matching pairs. The five remaining cards form a royal flush! HEAPS OF LIES: Our final visit to positional retention is a version of the familiar Gardner 'Lie Detector' plot. This time a Deal Mix is used instead of the Under/down (Status Quo Principle 2). BLACKJACKED: A production of perfect blackjack hands from a shuffled packet.

A Collection of Card Magic from George McBrideCONTENTS:All From One: Three cards are selected and lost in the deck. The spectator stabs the Joker into the deck at any point - the card next to the Joker proves to be the first selection. Suddenly the second selection appears between these two cards. Finally the Joker transforms into the third selection! Ambitious Hofzinser: A card is selected and lost into the deck. You show the four Aces and perform a magical sequence, whereby each Ace travels from the bottom of the packet to the top in true 'Ambitious-style.' The final Ace magically changes into the selection. Angel Heart: A spectator removes a card from a position in the deck - say 20th. This card is clearly placed on the bottom of the deck. Instantly the card vanishes from the bottom and reappears at its original position from the top - but this time it's face up! Finally the other three matching mates of the selection appears face up in the middle of the deck! Blending Bullets: Two Blendomatic cards are placed aside (two black Aces). A card is chosen (e.g. Ten of Hearts), returned to the pack and the pack shuffled. The magician tries to cut the chosen card to the top of the pack but fails, revealing instead, the Six of Hearts. The magician tries again but gets the Four of Hearts this time. Both these cards are placed between the Blendomatic cards and are given a squeeze. The subsequent blend produces the Ten of Hearts. Campbell's Aces: Four Aces cleanly placed face down into the middle of the face-down deck instantly turn face up - except for one. This Ace happens to be the same suit as a previously selected card. When turned over, it proves to be the selection. Immediate Ace Spell: You hand out the pack to a spectator for shuffling. You now take back the pack and immediately spell to each of the four Aces, with the spectator spelling to the final Ace. Imogen: A spectator mentally creates a playing card. When he spells the name of this card he finds the three matching mates. Amazing, as this is, his actual mental selection is now produced from an impossible location! One Too Many: A spectator selects s card and lose it back into the deck. With the deck in hands, he now gives you three cards, one by one. But, when you count them you have four. 'You must have given me one too many,' you say, as you toss one aside. Once again you count the cards but you've still got four! This is repeated several more times. Finally, you place the cards on the spectator's hand whereupon they meld into a single card. This is her selection. Pass the Sandwich: Two Aces visibly vanish from the top of the deck - one by one - and reappear in the middle with a previously selected card trapped between. Cool and clever. Repulsion: The four Queens are shown and placed on the table. Two cards are selected and lost in the deck. The deck is tapped with the Queens and the first selection rises to the top. This card is then placed among the Queens, whereupon it instantly vanishes and reappears inside your pocket. This is repeated with the second selection. As with most of George's tricks, you finish clean. Roy Walton's Flight Path: This is Roy's excellent take on the above trick. Here the deck is handled only by the spectator. Thought Provoked: Two spectators are each given a small packet of cards. They both look at their cards and think of any one. Each of the thought of cards is revealed in a most surprising manner. Transmutation: There's plenty of magical content in this. It combines 'The Ambitious Card' with 'Dr. Daley's Last Trick' and concludes with the Classic Roy Walton 'Oil & Queens' ending. What more could one ask for? Travelling PDQ: Three selected cards travel to three different pockets. You'll simply love this! George totally fooled me blind with this one. Triola: Three cards are selected and lost into the deck. The two Jokers instantly catch one of the selections. Now both Jokers immediately transform into the remaining two selections. One great & simple move does it all.

Finally he decides that the chosen card must be one of 3 possible cards and shows them to the spectator. The rest of the deck is given to another spectator to hold.Now the magician hands the 3 possible cards to the spectator face down and asks them to take a deep breath and simply let the card melt away from their mind. The cards in the spectator’s hands are then spread to reveal only two and the missing card is the chosen card. The spectator is then asked to concentrate on the thought of his card again, and the magician turns back to the representation of the mind, the deck in the other spectator’s hands. The deck is spread to reveal the chosen card face up in the centre. The spectators thought has materialised again.Influential: A spectator is shown a normal deck of 52 cards and told that he is about to be influenced into picking a certain card of the magician’s choosing. He is told that the influences will be very subtle but that if he notices them, he is to try and resist. He is also told that there will be 2 practice runs before the real card is selected. The magician obviously out jogs a face-up card and tells the spectator to resist the influencing if he notices it. The spectator picks any card he likes and the magician explains how the out jogged card influenced his decision. This is repeated again, and then on the third time the magician out jogs 4 cards, one of each suit. The card chosen (which doesn’t have to be one of the out jogged cards) is the card to be used. The magician asks if the spectator would like to change his decision and the spectator decides whatever he likes.The deck is turned over and the chosen card is held in the magician’s hands as he fans the deck to show all the backs are the same and are normal. The chosen card is then turned over and written on the back, in large black writing is “Your Card”. 'You have created an effect stronger than the invisible deck!' - Chris Earl Perfect Prediction: A spectator selects a number of cards from a face-down spread and a prediction is written. Those cards are placed face up on the table and they are eliminated one by one by the magician and the spectator, together. The prediction is turned over and the note is read out. The magician has predicted the correct card! (Cue applause). But the effect isn't finished! The magician then proceeds to say how confident he was of influencing the spectator's decision/knowing the spectator's choice that he went so far as to ensure that only one prediction could be used and he even made the prediction hours or even days before the night of performance. He spells out the note letter by letter and is left with the same number of cards as the value of the chosen card. Those cards then are then shown in pairs of the same suit that add up to the correct value. This is repeated 4 times. How perfect!
